The Tapestry of Överhogdal

Back to Overhogdal!

oh-bon-2.jpg (67471 bytes)

A reconstruction of the major part of the hanging tapestries that are included in the Överhogdal tapestry. The original was found in one of the wooden storehouses near the church in 1910. With help from modern technology it has been established that they are woven for more than a thousand years ago. Forngården (Ancientfarm) in Överhogdal shows how they were found, how one managed to make a copy of them, with the same methods used during the time of Vikings and a number of the many interpretations of its content.

Eija Koivumaa has got her inspiration and symbols from the Överhogdal tapestry for some of her work that are for sale on this homepage.
